1. Special Issue on Digital Humanities and Libraries in China
Head Librarian Dr. Lian Ruan and Dr. Xingye Du from National Science Library in Beijing, co-edited a special issue for
Library Trends, titled “Digital Humanities and Libraries in China.”
Library Trends journal, a respected publication in the information sciences field, is published quarterly for the UIUC iSchool by The Johns Hopkins University Press. The chief editor is Lisa Hinchliffe from the UIUC Main Library. The issue includes 16 papers and was published in December 2020. The digital issue, Volume 69, Number 1, Summer 2020, now is active on MUSE (link:
https://muse.jhu.edu/issue/43325) and the hard copy is also available.
It is hoped that the papers in this special issue will serve as a reference for understanding the practice and research status of digital humanities (DH) in China. The Chinese authors welcome feedback, suggestions, comments, and, more importantly, collaboration from various fields to further the development of DH in China.

Library Trends issue explores digital humanities in China

A new issue of Library Trends highlights the state of digital humanities in China. Digital Humanities and Libraries in China was edited by iSchool Research Affiliate Lian Ruan (PhD '11), head librarian at the University of Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI), and Xingye Du, associate research librarian at the National Science Library in China.
This special issue consists of sixteen papers that provide an overview, case studies, and highlights of China's digital humanities practice. The issue is based on data collected directly from Chinese academic libraries and humanities scholars, providing unique first-hand information from sources obtained during the authors' extensive work practices, research, and knowledge about libraries and digital humanities practices in China.
"Collaboration in research, especially international collaboration and communication, is the key to the success of scholarship," said Ruan, who serves as executive director of the Chinese American Librarians Association (CALA). "We hope this issue will help readers, particularly in the Western world, gain better understanding of digital humanities development in China. We also hope to receive additional feedback and suggestions."

1. Special Issue on Transforming Libraries in China through Innovative User-Centered Services
Dr. Lian Ruan Ruan works with Dr. Xingye Du on monitoring 20 research papers for the special issue of the IGI International Journal of Library and Information Services, entitled “Transforming Libraries in China through Innovative User-Centered Services.” Dr. Xingye Du is the Co-Editor-in-Chief. She was an IFSI visiting scholar in fall 2017 and she is the Managing Editor of the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The special issue is divided into two parts Volume 9, Volume 10, and published in 2020 and 2021. Dr. Ruan Lian submitted two Prefaces to Kayla Bishard (IGI editor) and Brian Doherty (IGI editor-in-chief).

Book on Academic Library Development and Administration in China
In September 2016, Head Librarian Dr. Lian Ruan, Director Qiang Zhu at Peking University Library, and Dr. Ying Ye at Nanjing University published a book on Academic Library Development and Administration in China. It provides a resource to promote Sino-U.S. communication and collaboration between their academic libraries. In considering the relationship between China and the West, this publication serves as a timely reflection on the expanding global field of information science. This publication is intended for librarians, researchers, university administrators, and information scientists in both the U.S. and China.
